Police car based on the Taurus Ford add a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine option.

Ford is launching a special version of its Taurus-based Specific Assistance Police Sedan with a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost motor. The move is made to offer police departments enhanced fuel economy for non-pursuit vehicles.

The automaker already supplies an edition of the Ford Taurus known as the Police Interceptor Sedan, which has been specifically modified with stronger components sufficient reason for provisions so police departments can add more communications and safety gear. The new Special Service Police model is similar generally in most respects but isn’t intended for high-speed pursuits; instead, its thriftier engine is intended for a lot more quotidian police work.

“Not every officer needs a pursuit-rated vehicle,” Ford police marketing supervisor Jonathan Honeycutt mentioned in a statement. “As agencies look to replace old, V8-equipped cruisers with more efficient cars, Ford is at the ready.”

Under the hood of the Particular Service Police is the exact same 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-four that is available in the consumer Ford Taurus, ranked for 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. As in the Ford Taurus, the authorities car includes active front side grille shutters to boost aerodynamics. In the police car, where it is mated to a six-speed automatic tranny and front-wheel drive, the motor will return 20/30 mpg (city/highway). While that’s straight down from the ratings return by a Ford Taurus with the two 2.0-liter engine, which manages 22/32 mpg  <; , it’s a big improvement over the outgoing Ford Crown Victoria police vehicle, which averaged 14/21 mpg thanks to its thirsty 4.6-liter V-8 engine.

The authorities Interceptor Sedan , which is based on the Ford Taurus, also offers police departments a selection from the 3.5-liter V-6 motor with front-wheel drive, a 3.7-liter V-6  <>  with front- or all-wheel generate, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 with all-wheel drive.

Opinion from Chris Ilson

This seems to be a great move and one that should have been made years ago.  Think of all the cities that are in near financial trouble.  Having cheaper to run civil service vehicles would save plenty of money.  The only problem that creates is corrupt politicans taking that money for themselves.

Report: French President says that the country’s auto industry will rebound with robots, autonomous cars

French president Francois Hollande chris ilson butterfly wiki

French president Francois Hollande

Like many countries all over the world, the recent global overall economy has hit France particularly hard, and its own government is looking for methods to turn that around. According to Reuters  <; , French president Francois Hollande (pictured above) is hoping that a couple of advanced transportation technologies will spur job and economy growth in the united kingdom. Proclaiming “France is a nation of inventors, pioneers and producers,” Hollande is reportedly phoning upon his country’s background of innovation to prospect it out of today’s financial malaise.

Among these ideas can be an autonomous car created by Renault-Nissan  , an “ultra-fuel-efficient” automobile from Peugeot    economically priced at 20,000 euros ($26,700 US) and also an electric-powered airplane. The article states that French automakers like Renault    and Peugeot are increasingly being restricted with regards to manufacturing by employment laws and regulations and high labor costs, but an elevated usage of robots could also help improve France’s manufacturing presence.

Chris Ilson opinion

I’ve got to say this news seems very risky to me.  A country putting their future into the hands of transportation advancements could end up going very wrong.  French president Francois Hollande would be wise to look to the past, especially at the past of the United States during the great depression.  The Government has to create jobs and spend money in order to boost the economy.  If you look at the landscape of automakers, you’ll find plenty of news about autonmous cars being researched.

ETC.: Top Gear picks their 50 greatest cars from the past 20 years

Our friends at Best Gear (the united kingdom TV show) are celebrating the publication’s twentieth birthday. Honoring that milestone, the BBC-owned book can be naming what it thinks will be the 50 greatest cars from days gone by 20 years. Now, that is TG’s list, this means it’s a little more centered on European brands and versions.

For instance, the Vauxhall Ampera is usually listed, as opposed to the Chevrolet Volt, and the only real American performance car may be the Ford GT – you can find no Vipers, no Corvettes, no muscle cars. Needless to say, gleam distinct insufficient cars from Jaguar, aswell, therefore the list isn’t very as blatantly Eurocentric since it appears on very first blush.

Still, there are numerous of items that are no-brainers, plus a several quirky choices which could only result from a magazine as irreverent as Top Equipment (Dacia Duster anyone?). All told, it’s a fascinating look at some significantly interesting cars. But you want to know very well what you imagine. Chime in straight down in the Remarks, and tell us which vehicles you imagine deserve their location, which vehicles you imagine ought to be added, and without any business such illustrious company.

Opinion from Chris Ilson:

Something is wrong with the article, Richard Hammond of Top Gear UK is a noted American muscle car fan.  In fact he even purchased either the new Challenger or new Charger some years back.  It also makes me wonder if the Top Gear 50 greatest car’s list would include a Lexus (haha Jeremy Clarkson thinks Lexus is evil or something!).  Even more bizzare is the Audi TT, which I thought Jeremy Clarkson hated.  No surprise at the car occupying the number 1 spot, I won’t spoil it however.

Chevrolet New cars 2014

It’s an exciting season, isn’t it? Once the new cars start to roll out, there is a crisp sense of objective in the air. This year, the carmakers are tough at it again after a troubled period, and although things aren’t easy, everyone is trying to do good work. The time for making excuses has ended, and now may be the time for making cars. For all of us, every new form promises to direct down a road that people haven’t taken before, and new individuals, distant places, and great adventures lie at the end of it. Every new car is a good drive waiting to happen.

The Camaro Z/28 can be back and should be better than ever. Meant to recall the initial, race-ready homologation specific from the late 1960s, the Z/28 offers been slated to return since the revival of the Camaro in 2010, but it didn’t make it to the street because Chevy engineers wished a worthy engine. Actually the supercharged, 580-hp V-8 from the ZL1 couldn’t reduce it. The Z/28’s centerpiece is the usually aspirated V-8 from the outgoing Corvette Z06, and it’s complemented by a six-speed manual transmission (and only a six-speed manual), track-prepared suspension, and carbon-ceramic brakes. It gets the same refreshed look that each Camaro gets for 2014, however the Z/28 looks more hard-core. However, this Camaro is probably not the track monster you are hoping for, because the baseline for the Z/28’s 300-pound weight loss is relative to the 4120-pound Camaro ZL1. Which means the Z/28 should weigh about just as much as a regular Camaro SS. – Joseph Capparella

The 2014 Chevrolet SS comes to the United States through Australia, where it is known as the Holden Commodore, the automobile that also spawned the short-resided but well-loved Pontiac G8. The brand new SS picks up where in fact the G8 remaining off, and we’re jazzed concerning the reappearance of a rear-wheel-drive efficiency sedan from Chevrolet. Sadly, you will see no manual tranny for people like us; a six-speed automatic will undoubtedly be matched with the LS3 V-8 engine that people know so properly from the C6 Corvette. The Chevrolet SS begins at a pricey $44,470, but that price includes standard luxury features such as a Bose audio system, Chevy’s MyLink, leather-trimmed seats, and even automatic parking assist — a first for the brand name. The SS goes up contrary to the brutish SRT versions of the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300 when it comes to tire-shredding capability, although its non-descript style doesn’t quite suit the Mopar twins with regards to muscle-car swagger. – JC

Chevrolet is well Chevrolet, not much more I can offer by way of an opinion other than pointing out the obvious.  I was never really into Chevrolet and still have not changed.

Alpina BMW M4 test B4 2014 out ahead

The Alpina sub-brand might not have quite just as much notoriety as BMW’s M or Mercedes-Benz’s AMG, however the models’ discreet mix of elegance and performance have made them a popular of many clients that don’t want the full boy-racer rawness of the M models, but something a little more exclusive and high-performance compared to the regular run-of-the-mill models. At the very least for the European marketplace, it appears like the upscale tuner will lay its hands on the just-introduced 2014 BMW 4 Collection coupe  <>  in the form of the B4.

The only real factory-authorized Alpina model currently offered in the U.S. may be the BMW 750-based B7  <; , which offers higher performance than BMW’s regular 750i sedan, but lighter weight and better handling compared to the V-12-powered 760Li. As of this moment, any expansion of the Alpina lineup in the U.S. is unfamiliar, but it’s likely the seven series will stay the only real Alpina model formally sold through BMW dealers.

Alpinas are recognized for having slightly less hp, but slightly more torque than their M counterparts, along with being commonly equipped with automatic transmissions, compared the manual or dual-clutch transmissions more typical of the M models. Our spy shooter states to anticipate about 410 hp from the B4′s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six, along with available all-wheel-drive, a feature that will not be provided on the upcoming M4.

Mazda6 diesel 2014 postponed because of delays in testing release.

Although the 2014 Mazda6 Skyactiv-D diesel sedan was supposed to go on sale by the end of this yr, a Mazda representative told us these days that the car’s for sale date would be postponed until spring 2014 due to delays in emissions screening and final certification. Once the car does arrive, though, it will be the only real Japanese diesel passenger car sold in the U.S.

Mazda originally announced the 2014 Mazda6 would be getting a diesel engine in the U.S. at the 2012 La auto display. The diesel engine is really a 2.2-liter four-cylinder that’s part of Mazda’s Skyactiv family of engines. Currently offered in European countries, the diesel creates 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque and should offer at least 30 % better fuel economy compared to the Mazda 6’s 2.5-liter Skyactiv gasoline engine. The 2014 Mazda 6 has already been rated at around 40 mpg on the road by the EPA , therefore we expect lofty rankings from the upcoming diesel.

According to a written report from Automotive News, senior vice president for Mazda North America Robert Davis delivered a letter to Mazda workers explaining that last certification tests is taking longer than anticipated for the diesel powerplant. However, the AN report furthermore says that around 4000 additional devices of the gasoline-run Mazda6 will be distributed to U.S. Mazda dealers early following year to accommodate high demand. Sales for the 2014 Mazda6 have significantly more than doubled in comparison to last year.

We should receive more information concerning the 2014 Mazda6 Skyactiv-D like pricing and mileage ratings nearer to its on sale date next year.

Yeah more opinion from Chris Ilson

First off got to say the looks of the 2014 Mazda 6 is rather good.  It’s about time Mazda join Hyundai, Nissan, Kia and a few other import brands that have fully refreshed their exterior looks.  The interior actually looks rather nice as well.  However I am not a fan of those three ‘pod’ looking things for the gauges but bleh, it looks pretty nice.  I also love the gated shifter and the control wheel just below.  As a shock, it’s still nice to see vehicles in 2014 coming equipped with an actual hand parking brake.  Most newer vehicles are doing away with that in favor of the foot parking brake.  One downside that must be mentioned, at least in my semi-evil opinion is the three spoke steering wheel.  I have to say I’m a die hard fan of the four spoke steering wheel.  Overall the 2014 Mazda 6 will be a rather nice rental car.  I’ll have to work on renting one to get a better sense of the performance and other such boring items to offer a more refined review and/or rant.  Additionally it must be mentioned that this is the diesel version.

The sedan with the top-of-the-variety 189-hp, 2.5-liter direct-injection Skyactiv-G motor mated to the six-speed automatic gearbox is, for now, the only real model headed stateside, though Mazda USA officials won’t rule out considering additional variants. Basic market dynamics suggest they have to: The rest of the key players in the segment offer a number of engine and transmitting variants.  This engine option will amount to lackluster performance in passing and overall enjoyment of the vehicle however you can smile when it comes time to calculate fuel economy.
